Fusion 6.4 question

Hi,

I have been thinking to upgrade my DFX4+ to Fusion 6.4.

Does anybody know if in addition to the upgrade price, I 'must' also purchase a yearly license?
Or can I just upgrade to the latest rev and not pay the added yearly license (knowing I would be stuck at present version)? Software use would be strictly hobby, mainly to work with (along with LW) in a long term personal project (dream) :)

Thanks

You don't have to pay for the subscription... but then you won't get updates either.
However, any licenses that were released during your subscription period (or when you purchase) will remain valid and will keep running even if the sub runs out.

Cheers,
Mike

If you haven't already done so, go for the upgrade - Fusion 6.4 is a fantastic piece of rock-solid software and has huge potential to change the way you work.

I upgraded my copy of DFX+4 to Fusion 6.4 (+ hardware dongle, so as to make the license machine independent) about a month ago. The people at Eyeon are very helpful - just email them regarding your intention to upgrade together with your DFX+4 license details and they'll get back to you promptly. Strangely, for such a prominent company, there doesn't appear to be a way to purchase licenses/upgrades on-line. In the end I asked them to call me (in the UK) so that I could pay for the upgrade by credit card over the phone, which they did almost immediately.

BTW, I didn't purchase a yearly subscription - I'll wait and see how things pan out regarding the scale of future bug fixes and new features before committing money to that.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Peter

I agree with Inkpen3D, Fusion 6.4 is a very solid release. I was/am on subscription, which had lapsed one year and I had to pay a reinstatement fee to renew it earlier this year. But as mentioned above, letting it lapse doesn't mean you can no longer use the version you already have. I take some comfort in maintaining the subscription because I also use Fusion at work and need to keep up but, to be honest, I haven't seen any updates since I reactivated my account so it's really a judgement call. (FWIW, whenever they do release the next update, I'll probably be glad I have it.)

One huge advantage you'll see over DFX+ is being able to use all the extra channels in the EXR format.

Yes! How could I have not mentioned exrTrader? If you use Lightwave with Fusion (or any compositing program that reads aux channels in EXR,) I highly recommend it.
