Session Backup Size

Hello.

I have never created a session backup and think I want to. How large of a drive do I need? How do I figure that out? Does it need to be the only thing on the backup drive? Do creating backup sessions work well without screwing anything else up in the system?

Thanks!

Caleb

When you backup a session, they are zipped (compressed). The main question as to size is how much media is contained in the session? If you have imported lots of media (or recorded footage), all of that will be backed up as well (plus media doesn't compress well in a zip file). It might be best to 'clear out' unneeded media from session before you back it up.

If the session is pretty empty of media, then the zip will be pretty small. Creating a backup will not mess up anything else on the system. It will create the backup, and the original session remains on the drive.

For the love all all things holy please please ask the Devs to disable the compression or give an option. Most content we are putting into these systems are already compressed, JPEG, H264 etc and the stuff that is in pro-res etc is huge and not getting any help. My main shows takes several hours to compress using the backup function but if I set it to store when I compress in windows it finishes in a few minutes on the SSDs. The size difference since the compression isn't helping is only a couple percent. Backups that take hours to perform are rarely done. This is even after I remove all the recording files from replay etc so it's just the base commercials and assets that add up time.
