NDI PTZ control in Zoom Rooms or NDI virtual webcam?

Can anyone shed any light on whether it might be possible to control an NDI ptz camera in Zoom Rooms (using zoom rooms' inbuilt NDI source selection), or simply via the NDI virtual webcam?

If it's not possible now, might this be technically feasible as a future feature request?

Alternatively, anyone have any suggestions on controlling a ptz camera in Zoom Rooms over IP? Could you use the JSON scripting feature in the zoom rooms controller room controls section to implement IP based ptz control? Or is there a better way?

Hi,

maybe you would like to implement an external PTZ camera(s) remote controler instead in your production workflow environment ?

e.g. something like product solutions for this from https://www.skaarhoj.com/products?category_tid=4 (from Denmark;))

I use for example a PTZ Pro w/Blue Pill in a Cisco Webex production setup with 2 PTZ cameras (Canon) since a while now at a customers location.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply!

We do have a proper ptz controller, which is perfect for more complex meetings with multiple cameras, but for a simple zoom call with one ptz we would like to have basic ptz controls on the Zoom Rooms controller.

Zoom Rooms supports this for lots of different cameras but not really any pro AV cameras which we need to use due to difficult lighting conditions in the room concerned.

You could use NDI Bridge to control a PTZ camera in a remote location, this requires extra software installed on Windows PCs on both sides and likely a port forward, but once setup you would be able to NDI Studio Monitor for PTZ control.

It's also possible to do if you can access the web interface of the PTZ camera, but this would also likely require some port forwarding as well.

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply. We can already control it via studio monitor on a pc but we specifically are trying to find a way to make the ptz controls appear on the zoom rooms controller.

This can be done with Canon's virtual webcam driver, and also with Panasonic's equivalent. That way zoom rooms device sees the camera as if it's a usb connected camera and allows ptz control.

The problem is the video latency and lip syncing is terrible using those drivers in my experience compared with the ndi virtual driver (or native ndi support in zoom rooms). It's just the NDI driver or native support do not allow for ptz control...
