MODO Software Discontinued

Got this message in the email today:
"After two decades of 3D workflow innovation, we have made the difficult decision to wind down development of Modo, following the release of 17.1.
This will enable Foundry to focus our efforts on our core products and new solutions for the media and entertainment industry.
We understand that this news may come as a surprise, especially for those of you who have relied on Modo over the years. We want to express our deepest gratitude for your loyalty and support. The passion and engagement of the Modo community has been inspiring."
...so other than Lightwave 3D and Blender, are there any other major standalone 3D software alternatives left?

I suppose all those orphaned Modo users will migrate over to Lightwave?

Comments @erikals or @prometheus ?

most of these will go to
> Blender
> C4D
> Houdini Indie
> Plasticity

not too many will go LightWave i think, but hopefully some

Most will probably go to blender.
Secondary amout, to houdini.
Then..maybe some will go back to lightwave.
Maya is however still one of those main app in the standard industry choice.
3D Max
Cinema 4D

Over here in ads anyway, which however may not accurately reflect what studios use, there is maya was the dominator,
But now blender seem to be catching up actually, and where houdini may be refered to next in line.
3D max is decreasing though:

And not so much cinema4D.

LIghtwave? forget about it.

How about….

vizArtist?

I just saw a topic on it at the top of the page.

Or does it have any practical application?

Seems like its very specialized for the Broadcast industry

Sez its free and its from….Norway

vizArtist is very broadcast oriented.
kinda like the old fashioned application "Flash"

it doesn't have any modelling features at all.
so, no, not of any use i'm afraid.

Plasticity

I looked that up, it's a 3D type CAD modeller @erikals.

From what I've seen its reviews have been pretty stellar.

No animation tho.

Here Plasticity is compared with Blender:

I think Plasticity was mentioned just because William maybe was using that for specific modeling purposes.
While it can´t be considered a replacement for Modo as a general 3D app.

but yeah, it has gotten good reviews, it handles tesselation with a preview before exporting, and almost unpar with MOI for that.
So..it´s a CAD design tool but with more aim towards the general 3D artist polymodelling workflow..I believe.
